Tiger
|
In each and every sport...there's one very special name...
that epitomizes the essence of that one particular game.
In baseball...it's the Babe...in horseracing there's the "Shoe"...
with boxing...only Ali...could possibly ever do...
what Pele did for soccer...or Jim Thorpe did for track...
with hockey...only Gretzky...could bring that feeling back.
But when it comes to golf...although there are so many
one very special man...personifies more than any...
that unique and wonderful spirit that makes a man... a star...
that charismatic element that comes from who you are.
His name describes the man...you can see it in his smile
"Tiger"...says it all...his name describes his style.
It's something deep down inside him...that only a few possess...
a quality so rare and unusual...it separates him from the rest.
The entire world loves Tiger...he embodies the soul of sport...
he plays for the joy of playing...both on and off the course.
He reaches for perfection...in all that he tries to do
he plays because he loves the game...and he makes us love it too.
Tiger is a champion...for a tired and troubled world...
he doesn't care about the color...of the little boys and girls...
who stand before him by the millions...wishing that they could be...
even a little bit like him...because in him they can see...
the hopes and dreams of the future...a world that will be theirs...
where race and religion won't separate us...a world where people care.
The children are the hope...a chance for mankind to be...
the world which God intended...a world equal and free.
And Tiger is teaching the children...golf has given him the way...
he hasn't let success or attention...prevent him or even delay...
the purpose for which he was given...the talent for playing his sport...
he has mesmerized the children...and he can do more from the course...
than all the goodwill ambassadors...with all their fancy speech...
the children will listen to Tiger...because Tiger knows how to teach.
He teaches by example...simply by living his life...
he stumbles and falls...like everyone else...then tries till he gets it
right.
And that's what makes him a champion...that's how he learned how to win...
and that's how...with each new challenge...he's going to win again.
So, thank you...from all of us, Tiger...
for showing us how it should be...
I'll be proud to tell my grandkids...that I witnessed history.
Because I once met Tiger Woods...
like my grandpa once met the Babe...
and Tiger was better than the legend...
because he took back less than he gave...
and that's why he'll always be a champion...no matter what the game
because with or without a golf club...
"Tiger"...is his name.
